TWO fathers, convicted of committing a spate of aggravated burglaries in Labasa, have both been imposed an imprisonment term respectively.

High Court judge Justice Lee James Burney convicted Timouta Bogitini, 21, and Emitai Bogitini, 29, earlier this year for the incident that occurred last year.

Timouta pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated burglary, four counts of theft and a count of aggravated robbery.

Court records show an elderly woman and her granddaughter were at home when they heard the dog barking and upon checking, saw Bogitini drinking water in the veranda.

He asked for the whereabouts of her husband and walked directly inside the house, wielding a cane knife and threatening to chop her and her granddaughter if he was not given money.

When money was refused, Bogitini and his accomplice ransacked the house and made away with several items.

A few days later, he entered a man’s house and stole items, including 10kg of yaqona which the victim had purchased for his son’s wedding.

Justice Burney sentenced Timouta to six years and three months jail term with a non-parole period of four years.

Meanwhile, his co-accused, Emitai, also pleaded guilty to a count of aggravated burglary and theft.

He broke into a man’s house with Timouta and another young offender before stealing various items.

Both men are married and have two children respectively and were remorseful for their actions.

Justice Burney in the end suspended Emitai’s 30-month sentence for two years.
