SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson has praised the overwhelming support from fans following his side’s 24-14 win over the Highlanders in their Round 12 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific clash at 4R Stadium, Govind Park in Ba.

Jackson described the turnout as special, saying the backing from the crowd continues to drive the team’s performance.

“The best fans in the world, the turnout was phenomenal. We are super lucky as a team to have a country who loves the game, interested in the game, knowledgeable of the game and the pressure of our players is to perform for them,” he said.

In an entertaining and physical contest, the Drua fought back from a 14-12 halftime deficit to dominate the second half and secure the win in front of their home crowd.

Both teams traded tries in the opening spell, with the Highlanders edging ahead just before the break. However, the Drua lifted their intensity after halftime, scoring twice and keeping the visitors scoreless to seal the result.

Jackson acknowledged the effort from his players after a demanding stretch of matches.

“It was a huge eight weeks for the boys, week in, week out,” he said.

He added that the team’s focus now shifts to their next assignment.

“Next focus is the Waratahs and we are looking forward to that.”

Highlanders head coach Jamie Joseph credited the Drua for their performance, saying it was a hard-fought encounter.

“I thought it was a tough game. We played some good rugby and Drua played some, so the points were reflected there. We also made some mistakes, but we had our moments,” he said.

Joseph also acknowledged the hosts for capitalising on key opportunities.

“Credit to the Drua.”
