FORMER journalist and National Federation Party stalwart Kamal Iyer is the NFP’s latest provisional candidate for the 2018 General Election.
Party leader Professor Biman Prasad made the announcement during a meeting at Penang Sangam High School in Rakiraki on Saturday.
“Kamal Iyer is a seasoned journalist who has worked in a number of organisations and he also has extensive experience working in the parliamentary Opposition office under Jai Ram Reddy,” Prof Prasad said.
“It took a while for me to convince him after working with Kamal for the past four years and I am extremely pleased that he has finally agreed to become a candidate in next month’s election.
“In Kamal Iyer, the NFP and people of Fiji will find a very trusted, honest and hardworking person.”
Mr Iyer and NFP vice-president Seini Nabou played a significant role in the party’s success in Parliament over the past four years in terms of activities and advocacy on issues.
“They both are part of a very strong team that is united and focused on bettering the lives of every citizen of this country,” Prof Prasad said.
“The NFP believes that Kamal would make a very strong and capable member of Parliament because of his passion for democracy, human rights, equality and justice.”
