This year’s ‘If Women Stop, the World Stops’ concert will be a call for all actors to advance equality, development and peace for women.

These were the sentiments of Fiji Women’s Rights Movement (FWRM) executive director Nalini Singh for the concert that will be an ode to International Women’s Day on Monday, March 8, 2021.

“This concert is our symbolic strike action calling for women to stop or slow down their formal or care work and demand the recognition of women’s human’s rights,” Ms Singh said.

She said apart from featuring renowned local female artists such as Laisa Vulakoro, Georgina Ledua, Natalie Raikadroka and Aggie Vakaloloma, the concert would also feature speakers from various women’s organisations.

“We are also launching the PiF-M – a pilot feminist mentoring program for mid-career level women where six women will have their names announced whereby they will have the opportunity to be mentored by FWRM co-founder, board member and women’s rights activist Imrana Jalal.”

She said the concert would highlight “the importance of women’s contributions to our daily lives, to demand the recognition of women’s human rights and an end to gender injustice and discrimination”.

The ‘If Women Stops, the World Stops’ concert will be held on Monday at Sukuna Park in Suva from 10:30am to 4pm.
