The International Women’s Association (IWA) charity ball was back with a bang last Saturday, raising about $165,000 profit from ticket sales alone.
About 100 guests came together to support the NGO’s work which mainly focuses on repairing and refurbishing the Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s maternity wards and children’s hospital.
IWA president Judy Compain said from all the years of organising the IWA ball, they raised the highest amount this year.
“It was absolutely fantastic,” she said.
“This is our record sales in the number of tickets.
“And a record profit that we have made from a function.
“Because $165,000 is complete profit, after our expenses.
“So we’ll focus mostly on the maternity and children’s hospital because generally it’s for women and children.
“We thank all our bidders from the auction and generally everyone who attended the ball.
“Our auction prizes got us $80,000 in total and all the bids were extremely high.
“We also thank the Fijiana girls because we had auctioned three jerseys instead of one for $6000 each.
“And two Fijian Drua jerseys went for $4000 each, so we got $8000 from the Fijian Drua and $18,000 from the Fijiana Drua.
“We also had generous donations from people that did not want to be named.
“I would like to acknowledge Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH) they have done a lot and accommodated us.”
