Permanent secretary for iTaukei Affairs Jone Navakamocea has been summoned to a meeting with the Public Service Commission (PSC) immediately upon his return to duty on April 7.

PSC chairman Luke Rokovada confirming a meeting has been set for the same day he resumes work.

He said Mr Navakamocea is currently on leave in Europe and has not resigned.

“I have requested Mr Navakamocea to meet with me on 7 April to discuss his status,” he said

The development comes as iTaukei Affairs Minister Iferemi Vasu threatens legal action against scathing allegations Mr Navakamocea made against him on social media.

Mr Rokovada also revealed the Public Service Commission has moved to reinforce expectations around leadership and accountability across the civil service.

In a circular issued to all permanent secretaries last month, the commission reminded senior officials of their constitutional responsibilities as heads of ministries and departments. The directive followed an address in Parliament by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, which highlighted expectations on leadership, integrity and ethical conduct.

Permanent secretaries have been directed to demonstrate effective leadership, ensure transparency in administrative and financial matters, and uphold high standards of professionalism and integrity. They are also required to exercise sound fiscal management and ensure services remain responsive and efficient.

The commission has also indicated it will review the Permanent Secretary Performance Framework, with formal evaluations to be carried out by the end of September 2026. Assessments will be conducted every six months, measuring performance against Government priorities and overall effectiveness in leading ministries.

All permanent secretaries have been directed to give the matter immediate attention and ensure full compliance.
