Islam is a religion of peace, tenderness, and affection, and it does not allow violence, terror, or hatred.

Speaking during the birth celebration of Prophet Mohammad at FMF Gymnasium in Suva yesterday, the High Commissioner of Malaysia Nor’ Azam Bin Mohd Idrus said the celebration was not only for Muslims, but for all who believed in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity for all.

“The Prophet’s life can be appreciated by everyone that values community, kindness, and decency,” Mr Nor’ Azam said.

“His example transcends religion and speaks to the very core of our shared humanity.

“The birth of Prophet Mohammad is therefore not just a remembrance, but a call for us to emulate his noble character — gentle in speech, firm in truth, and compassionate in dealings.

“Let us increase our ‘salawat’, strengthen our faith, and enliven the ‘Sunnah’ in our daily lives.

“By following his example, may we become a community that promotes peace, stability, and prosperity for all.”

He said Malaysia was proud to stand with Fiji in their shared journey.

“Our two nations, though far apart geographically, are bound by the desire to promote peace stability, and prosperity for all.

“Gatherings like today’s remind us that peace, stability, and prosperity are not built by one group alone — but through the partnership of governments, civil society, academia, media, and communities working hand in hand.”

Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua said that as a multicultural country, Fiji’s people shared valuable lessons from each other’s traditions and religions.

“Fiji is a place where we share these traditions and it’s important that we honour and respect the traditions and the celebrations of other members of our community,” Ms Qereqeretabua said.

“Just like we celebrate Diwali, celebrate Christmas, we’re celebrating the commemoration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad and just joining the members of the Fiji Muslim League in celebrating this.”
