A FOREIGN investor who has established his business in Korovuto, Nadi, is looking at commercial maize farming as a viable industry with a long-term view to constructing his own flour mill.

Bajwinder Singh arrived from India in 2017 and has initially been assisting sugarcane farmers by hiring out agricultural tools and machinery.

The managing director of Gurdip and Sons Enterprises Pte Ltd said the future of agriculture lay in crop diversification.

“In the past seven months, we have been doing land preparation for farmers and sugarcane growers,” Mr Singh said.

“We also assist them in okra, maize, cane and mixed vegetable planting with the use of machines.

“We want to establish a complete agricultural system but we are still working on that.

“We also hope to sell farming tools and implements and we also hope to start a repair workshop for agriculture.”

Mr Singh, an engineer by profession, said part of his company’s future plans was to set up its own flour mill in Fiji and this was why their current focus was on maize farming.
