The Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has clarified that the official cause of the recent Rarawai Mill fire is still under investigation by the National Fire Authority (NFA), urging the public to refrain from premature conclusions.
In a statement released today, FSC management emphasised that until the NFA completes and releases its official findings, any speculation about the cause of the fire is unhelpful and misleading.
“The official cause of the Rarawai Mill fire is yet to be confirmed by the National Fire Authority. Until this report is released, any speculation remains premature and unhelpful,” the statement read.
FSC acknowledged the seriousness of the incident and highlighted that its internal safety protocols, along with swift coordination with the NFA and support from contractors, ensured the fire was quickly contained without any injuries or loss of life.
“FSC takes the safety of its employees, farmers, lorry drivers, and all stakeholders with the utmost seriousness,” management stated.
“While the Rarawai Mill fire was an unfortunate incident, FSC’s established safety systems, swift coordination with the National Fire Authority, and support from contractors ensured that the situation was contained without injury or loss of life.”
FSC also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, compliance with occupational health and safety requirements, and maintaining high operational standards.
“We remain committed to transparency, compliance with all OHS requirements, and the highest operational standards. FSC strongly urges that discussions on this matter be based on facts rather than speculation, as misleading commentary only undermines confidence and the tireless efforts of those working to restore normalcy.”
The FSC is expected to provide further updates once the NFA’s investigation concludes and a final report is made available.
