Absence of internet that affect students and villages in Namosi are expected to ease following the commissioning of a Starlink satellite internet system at Waivaka Village.

Acting district officer Susana Rokodakonivosa said the installation of Starlink connectivity at community halls in selected villages mark a major shift, particularly for secondary and tertiary students who had struggled to complete research, assignments and online learning.

“For Namosi, we have four districts that are listed as black zones. We have not had any connectivity whatsoever,” she said.

“The Ministry of Communications has now introduced a project that will see 15 villages in Namosi installed with Starlink connectivity, providing both internet and voice services.”

Ms Rokodakonivosa said the service would be housed at community halls to allow shared access, with a strong focus on supporting students while also benefiting the wider community.

The commissioning at Waivaka Village covered Waivaka, Narukunibua, Nasigatoka and Namosi Village.

The Starlink systems in the four districts were commissioned by Minister for Policing and Communications, Ioane Naivalurua.
