HANDS Across Nasinu initiative is not about holding hands, it is about holding hearts, minds and responsibility.
The Nasinu Town Council executive chairman Felix Magnus while highlighting this during the launch on Friday last week, said the initiative was inspired by the 1986 Hands Across America Movement.
He said its aim was to save the youths of Nasinu from the rising tide of social ills that threaten their well-being, their dreams, their aspirations and their future.
“Our purpose is clear and urgent,” Mr Magnus said.
“The truth is, our young people are not just leaders of tomorrow, they are the hope of today.
“Yet too many of them have been pulled into the vicious cycles of substance abuse, crime, violence and despair.”
He said that due to the dilemma and the cruelty of social ills, he had lost his only son to crime.
“As the proverb wisely says, it takes a village to raise a child. But we will add today, it takes a united village to protect one. This is what Hands Across Nasinu is all about.
“We aim to create strong mentorship programs with positive role models, collaborate with faith-based communities to guide and nurture spiritual and moral growth, and work with schools to deliver life skills and value-based education.
“To provide safe, accessible spaces for recreation, expression and learning, and empower every young person with the message, you matter.”
