Connecting every police station is now a top priority as Fiji moves to fix critical gaps in policing capability.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says digital connectivity remains one of the force’s most urgent needs under the new strategy.
“You know, I think, what we are working on now is the priorities, the area network, the connection,” he said.
Mr Tudravu confirmed an agreement had already been signed with a telecommunications provider to link stations nationwide.
“We are trying to connect all our police stations and our community posts, and also all these things will be linked to the various divisional command centre and the National Command Centre.”
He said the move would allow better access to data and improve coordination across the organisation.
“Based on the infrastructure that is in place, we’ll have the database that we’ll be having all information,” he said.
Currently, he noted, some units operate separate systems, limiting efficiency.
The digital upgrade aims to unify information, from human resources to forensic data.
Mr Tudravu said this would strengthen investigations, intelligence sharing and response times.
The push for digitalisation is a key part of the Ministry of Policing Strategic Plan 2025–2030, launched yesterday.
Authorities say modern policing depends heavily on technology, with improved connectivity seen as critical to future operations.
