THE Water Authority of Fiji says there are several significant infrastructure projects aimed at ensuring long-term water security across the Northern Division.
This was after they were questioned about whether there were any sustainable plans to address the recurrent water shortages that affected the region almost every year.
“To ensure long-term water security in the Northern Division, we have several infrastructure projects either underway or in the planning phase,” WAF said.
In Labasa, WAF said a new catchment had been secured at Satulaki, where a 30 million litre per day (MLD) package plant and a 30 (MLD) reservoir were planned to supplement the existing water supply, “while the proposed Vakaderebua project in Taveuni will interconnect with the Mua scheme to increase capacity and mitigate ongoing water shortages in the area”.
For Nabouwalu, WAF said, they were in the process of acquiring a new catchment at Driti, which would be developed to support supply to Dama and strengthen the Nabouwalu system.
