A total of 20 students gathered at the RT Xtreme Tae kwon do summer camp training on its first day, which took place at the Boxfit Gym in Toorak, Suva yesterday.

The camp was led by chief instructor Pranit Kumar and Grand Master Andy Rutten, who travelled all the way from Adelaide to teach the students of Fiji the sport.

Kumar expressed his enthusiasm for the turnout, stating that he hopes to attract even more participants to join the club.

He emphasised that the focus of the summer camp is on development, particularly for the junior participants.

“The ultimate goal of the club is to produce athletes who can compete at the Olympics and other major events like the Oceania games,” said Kumar.

“The summer camp, which is being run by chief instructor Andy Rutten, is designed to provide a solid foundation for students who are new to the sport.”

Kumar stressed the importance of instilling discipline, respect, and personal growth in all of his students.

As a sparring athlete himself, Kumar explained that Tae kwon do is recognised as an Olympic sport in sparring, but there are also opportunities to compete at the world level in other categories.

The RT Xtreme Tae kwon do Summer Camp will conclude today.
