Impact of Singh, Ali fight

BOXER Joseph Kwadjo believes the fight between Sebastian Singh and Junior Farzan Ali will keep the sport back on track in the country.

Singh and Ali will fight in the Fiji Southern Boxing Promotion to be held at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park on June 30.

The 32-year-old Ghanaian boxer has fought 34 bouts in his career and has been living in Fiji since 2009.

“It’is going to be the best fight ever people will watch in many years. It’s also a well organised fight to be staged by promoters I have seen in my past eight years in Fiji,” he said.

“There are best boxers in Fiji who will be fighting in the promotion such as Johnny Singh, Ronald Naidu, Opeti Tagi and Abhay Chand.”

He said he was happy and believed the promoter would be organising more fights in the near future.

“I have sparred with Sebastian and Farzan but it is different from the actual fight. Some boxers look good in sparring sessions but in actual fight, they lose their confidence when they face he crowd. I taught Sebastian a lot of things and it’s to him to go and do the damage,” he said.

“I am not supporting anyone, but only the best boxer will win the fight. At the end of the day it is all for the country. It is 50-50 situation for both boxers. A win for either of them is good for the country and fans and the Fiji boxing will gain out of it.”

Kwadjo will fight Savenaca Naliva in the main supporting bout and thanked his sponsors who had been supportive towards him.

“My sponsors have been playing an important role in my boxing career and I thank Majesty Consultant Company, Suva Boxing Fitness Centre, Metro Gym, Cityline Buses, Grants Betting House and Wailoaloa Resort,” he said.
