A RENOVATED Immigration Referral Office at Lautoka Wharf has been reopened after remaining vacant for more than six years because of its deteriorating condition.
Speaking at the opening, permanent secretary for Immigration, Aliki Salusalu, said the project was more than an office renovation.
Mr Salusalu described the milestone occasion as an investment in frontline immigration officers and border operations.
“Our immigration officers are at the frontline of Fiji’s border management and operations,” he said.
“Providing them with the right facilities and working environment enables them to carry out their duties safely, professionally and effectively.”
The renovated facility will support immigration clearance and referral functions at Lautoka Wharf.
Mr Salusalu said the upgrade strengthened the Ministry of Immigration’s capacity to carry out its responsibilities while supporting efforts to secure Fiji’s borders and improve services.
According to the ministry, the renovation had restored the office to an operational, safe and secure standard.
It also acknowledged the agencies and partners involved in completing the project.
