Fiji’s leadership in regional aviation has been reaffirmed with the establishment of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Pacific liaison office in Nadi, says Civil Aviation Minister Viliame Gavoka.

In Parliament this week, Mr Gavoka reiterated this was enabled by the support and commitment of the Government, which included a $250,000 provision within the total funding allocated to the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji.

“This office strengthens technical cooperation between ICAO and Pacific Island nations, positioning Fiji at the centre of regional aviation diplomacy,” he said.

“It serves as a strategic hub for collaboration, oversight and advancement of shared long-term vision for safe, sustainable aviation across the Pacific.”

Mr Gavoka said the $93million allocation to his ministry is not just a budgetary line but a bold endorsement of tourism and aviation as engines of economic resilience.

“It means a small family-run business thrives on weekend bookings, a young Fijian discovers a career in hospitality, a village receives more visitors, more income, and more pride.”

Mr Gavoka said the budget was a reaffirmation of the Government’s commitment to build a Fiji “that is more just, more sustainable, and more united”.
