ALL eyes will be on the ring today as Fiji’s super bantamweight champion and WBA Oceania Interim Super Bantamweight titleholder, Junior Binnu Singh, faces Indian boxer Varun Phartyal in the headline bout of the ZEG Boxing Promotion at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
Although the two fighters are not personally familiar with each other, anticipation is high for what promises to be an exciting and competitive showdown.
Singh enters the fight with a clear statistical advantage, having competed in 14 professional bouts, securing 12 wins and suffering just two losses.
Phartyal, on the other hand, brings experience from 10 fights, with six victories and four defeats.
Speaking after the weigh-in yesterday, Singh remained confident but composed about the challenge ahead.
He acknowledged the pre-fight talk from his opponent but emphasised that the real test will come inside the ring. Singh stated that he has trained extensively and is fully prepared for whatever unfolds on fight night.
“I know he has been talking a lot, but we will see on fight night,” he said.
“I’ve trained hard, and it’s going to be a very good fight. I will talk in the ring,” said Singh.
He added that while he has watched some of Phartyal’s previous fights, he does not know him personally.
“I don’t really know much about him, but whether it ends in a knockout or goes the distance, we’ve trained for it. I’m ready to step into the ring.
Singh also took the opportunity to call on boxing fans to come out in large numbers to support not only him but all the fighters on the card.
