LIVING healthy and encouraging her family and friends to eat healthy all the time is something that Salote Marama believes in.

At the age of 50 years, Mrs Marama said she feels healthier than ever with many people complimenting her on her appearance.

Mrs Marama said looking young was credited to her healthy living lifestyle and not buying a lot of processed foods from the supermarket.

“I buy a few items from the supermarket in bulks like flour, toiletries and sugar because it’s hard to get it in the rural area,” she said.

“I can only spend $20 on groceries because I don’t buy processed food or meat from the supermarket. We only rely on fresh fish and crabs in the village because it’s healthy compared to chicken and other meats that are sold.

“I always shop at Shop N Save Supermarket in Nausori because its cheap compared to Korovou Town supermarkets. The prices of items in Korovou Town are too expensive, so most of us prefer buying things from Nausori.

“I can shop only once a month for grocery items because we buy them in bulks and it can last for the whole month.

“We hardly use a lot of sugar or flour except during special occasions when we need to bake.

“We love to eat fresh things from the farm because its more nutritious and healthy compared to those processed foods.”

She said a lot of people took foregranted the things that grew in their backyard because they loved to buy things from the supermarket instead. “A lot of people have vegetables growing in their back yard like bele, rourou and eggplants that they can use,” she said.

“These home-grown vegetables are really healthy and can lead to families saving a lot of money.”
