More than 50 youths from the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Lautoka took part in the annual crosswalk pilgrimage which ended yesterday with hundreds of Catholics joining the youths for the final lap of their 33-day stretch.

The event marked the start of the Easter celebrations, a cross carried by those leading the march signifying Christ’s journey to Calvary.

The youths who prayed and fasted during their month-long pilgrimage was led by former Fiji Airways flight attendant Latreez Tulele.

Ms Tulele said the experience had brought her closer to God.

Being one of the 758 employees that were made redundant in 2020, she said praying over the past month had offered her comfort.

She added she was able to witness people’s daily struggles during the pilgrimage.

“The challenges we saw in homes, we did not expect.

“Some were struggling and we felt how they struggled and how they lived.

“There were a lot of children and saw how they fed their kids, we ate what they ate and that touched us a lot.”
