A vast range of sporting activities was enjoyed by the young and old who turned up to enjoy the annual Olympic Day celebration held simultaneously in Suva and Nadi yesterday.
FASANOC had invited their 15-member federations to come together at Suva’s Albert Park and CAAF compound in Nadi to celebrate the annual event.
In Suva, children and athletes took part in modified athletic events, football, taekwondo, netball and other traditional games.
“It’s really to commemorate the Olympic movement and the mission of the founder of this movement is to get people moving hence the slogan, Let’s move,” FASANOC sports development officer Lyndall Fisher said while giving an overview of the Olympic Day.
The inclusive event also featured some members of Team Fiji’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
“For this year we invited our members to come and try a sport so it’s really to provide our federation members an opportunity to showcase their sport.
“What we’ve done is all participants need to take part in at least five sports and then they will be given an official Olympic Day certificate.
“We are pleased too that have people with disabilities joined us so it’s really an inclusive day,” Fisher added.
Fiji 7s Olympic gold medal winning captain and current coach Osea Kolinisau delivered the key Olympic message in Suva while Tony Moore who represented the country at the 1976 Games opened proceedings in Nadi.
