The Rewa football side is looking to repeat the performance of 2020 when they last won the Battle of the Giants football tournament.

The side beat Suva 1-nil in the final of the tournament this year and the two teams meet in the opening match of the 2023 Rooster Chicken/Scoops Premium Ice-Cream Battle of the Giants.

Rewa captain Setareki Hughes said the team had done the hard yards in training and was looking forward to the opener against the southern rivals.

“The boys have done well in training and are looking forward to this tournament. We have been working on our finishing and we hope to get the tournament rolling with three points in the first match against Suva,” Hughes said.

Rewa, which won the Digicel Premier League title last year, played in the final of the Fiji FACT tournament, is one of the favorites in this year’s BOG.

However, Hughes and the brigade are aware of the task at hand.

“We have a tough pool, and the players know it won’t be easy qualifying for the semi-finals. But we have confidence in the team selected and we know they can get the job done.”

Rewa has featured in the finals of the BOG 12 times, winning nine.

The Delta Tigers were winners the last time the tournament was held in Nadi in 2010.

Rewa takes on Suva in the opening match of the tournament at 1pm tomorrow.

At 3pm, Navua battles Lautoka, Ba takes on Labasa at 6pm while Nadi takes on Tailevu Naitasiri at 8pm.
