CHINA number one player Yingqi Huang has proven why she is the world’s best player after beating teammate Yumeno Soma in a three straight in the girl’s cadet singles.
It was an all Asian affair after both their players dispatched of their opponents from Europe in the semi-final.
Yingqi was made to work hard for the win by Team Europe’s Elizabet Abraamian but finally managed a 4-3 win in a best of seven.
The Chinese number one girls seed seemed rattled by a more determined Elizabet, however showed her experience and class to get the win.
Yumeno showed that she would not be a pushover with a four straight set win over Team Europe’s Elena Zaharia.
In the mixed events saw team Asia’s Guankai Niu and Team Europe’s Jamila Laurenti showed why they were the best in their respective continents after they combined well in the finals of the mixed events at the 2017 World Cadet Challenge.
Guankai is considered the boys number one seed coming into the World Cadet Challenge while Jamila is Europe’s number one seed in the girls.
The pair won two sets to nothing in a best of three against Team Asia’s Yumeno Soma and North America’s Edward Ly.
The mixed events are considered a fun event for participating athletes with partners chosen at random.
“I was lucky to be paired with China’s number one boy so it is good,” said Jamila.
“And it is also good that our style of play works for each other.”
In the semi final, Team Latin America’s Silva Diogo and
Team Asia’s Hanna Ryu won in two straight sets against previously unbeaten pairing of Team Europes Olav Kosolosky and North America’s Benita Zhou.
Team Europe boys team of Csaba Andras and Martin Friis created the upset of the day with a 3-2 win over the more highly fancied Team Asia.
Team Asia’s Kazuki Hamada and Gyeongtae Park were unable to contain a determined and energetic Team Europe.
With the game played at a fast pace, both Csaba and Martin managed to stop Team Asia.
But they went down to the top team in Asia’s Guankai Niu and Yi-Hsin Feng in the finals after they defeated team Europe’s pairing of Maksim Grebnev and Olav Kosolosky in three straight sets in a best of five in the semi-finals.
