HSBC SVNS SERIES Rohit Deo’s Diary – DAY 3

Listen to this article:

Bula vinaka from Singapore once again!

The first day at any new venue is always the toughest for a reporter, and this experience was no exception.

I woke up early with the aim of arriving at the ground before the gates opened at 8.30am.

Navigating my way to the correct entrance proved challenging, but after some searching, I managed to reach the media room just in time for the 9am briefing.

One unexpected hurdle was accreditation.

To take photos, I had to register separately as a photographer, as a reporter’s accreditation alone does not allow photography.

Juggling photography, interviews, and video coverage was never going to be easy, but we choose this profession knowing the demands that come with it.

My main focus for the day was covering the opening matches of the Fiji men’s and women’s teams, as those stories were destined for today’s paper.

Once that was wrapped up, attention shifted to pushing content online and keeping audiences updated in real time.

Unfortunately, the Fijiana side lost their first two matches, which means the spotlight will now firmly be on the men’s team.

They looked sharp and confident in their opening outing, and fans, myself included, will be hoping
they can successfully defend the Singapore 7s title.

It promises to be a long night, with matches running until nearly midnight Fiji time.

Despite the long hours and early start, it has been an amazing experience so far. I’m truly looking forward to finals day here in the Lion City.

Till the next update, ni sa moce!
