InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel & Holiday Inn Suva have stopped using plastic room key cards and replaced them with an eco-friendly bamboo alternative.
The three properties are owned by Fiji National Provident Fund and operated by InterContinental Hotels Group.
“Our move from plastic to bamboo key cards is a small but meaningful step towards realising our ambitious sustainability goals, which are outlined in IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow plan,” said Lachlan Walker, portfolio general manager — IHG Hotels & Resorts, FNPF-owned hotels.
“Every day we try to uncover new ways to minimise our impact on the environment and become a more responsible business operator.
“I am proud of the progress we are making through initiatives such as this, which invest in the protection of our oceans and community.”
By switching to bamboo key cards, the three Fiji hotels will save approximately 20,000 plastic cards from reaching landfills each year.
