MARRIOTT International hosted a global customer appreciation event this week in which it highlighted the company’s global expansion, commitment to community and recent record-breaking regional performance.

Area general manager and vice president/Pacific Islands Neeraj Chadha shared the company’s philosophy on hospitality and its rapid global growth.

“My personal belief is that hotels are a great gathering place,” he said.

“The hospitality should be stylish, it should be generous and we should host with a servant’s heart.

“Marriott, across the globe, follows a similar principle, where we believe that connecting with communities and contributing directly and indirectly is a key value of ours.

“Somebody recently shared with me that we are opening a hotel every 14 hours, which means 9700 hotels, 143 countries, 30 brands and 260 million Bonvoy members.”

Mr Chadha noted the ongoing efforts in sustainability and community engagement through the company’s programs.

“Through our Serve360 program, we continue to stay focused on our community activities, working with our NGO partners, continuing to develop our sustainability actions.”

He also confirmed that two major properties recently underwent external audits for environmental certification.

“Incidentally, we just got audited by Earth Check, both Sheraton and Marriott Momi Bay, for silver certification. So, we are on our way there.

“And then, of course, continuing to invest in our farm, which now produces just over 1600 kilograms of fruits and vegetables and herbs.

“The first harvest of bee hives is there. We have about 70 litres of honey.”

Mr Chadha acknowledged government support and announced plans for further recruitment of staff.

“Thank you to the government for supporting us with scholarships.

“We hope we will now have another hundred through the course of the first half of next year, which will be another strategy to open with local talent, the Westin Hotel.

“From our people’s side, we have just about 320-odd associates now gainfully employed in our hotels from Fiji Marriott Training Academy.”
