THE only hope former police special constables have of being included in the payout now lies in a letter sent to Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama last week.
They had requested to visit him to discuss issues regarding the payout they would not be part of.
Former Police Officers Association executive Tevita Ralulu said they hoped to meet the Prime Minister before April 2 — the proposed date of payout.
This, they believe will be the best time to meet him as he can make a decision for them to be accommodated in the payout.
“Our letter of request has gone to the PM last week and we have highlighted the plight of these special constables and why they need to be part of the payout,” Mr Ralulu said.
“We also highlighted their roles and the work they did, just like any other regular police officer and this is why they need to be part of any police payout.
“We hope to have a talanoa session with him soon so we could raise these issues.”
These issues included pending hours being owed to these former special constables by the Fiji Police Force, unpaid injuries during working hours and the roles they played in recent coups Fiji had.
Most claimed they did work done by any regular police officer hence deserved to be part of any police payout.
