The aftermath of the fiery Extra Battle of the Giants semi-final between Labasa and Rewa has spilled off the pitch and onto social media, with both teams issuing strong public statements on their social media pages last night.
Rewa FC expressed disappointment over what they described as “hooliganism” from a section of Labasa supporters.
In a statement, the Delta Tigers alleged that threats, bottle-throwing, and verbal abuse were directed at their players and officials, “in full view of security and police.”
Rewa stressed their concern was not about the loss, congratulating Labasa on the win, but said football “should be about passion, pride, and respect,” calling for stronger measures to protect all participants.
Labasa FC, fresh from their decisive victory, hit back at Rewa on its social media page and reminded supporters and rivals alike that “champions are measured by results and wins.”
“Urging everyone to rise above excuses and show “maturity, respect, and sportsmanship.”
The Babasiga Lions called on fans to be “gracious in defeat and humble in victory,” declaring, “Once a champion, always a champion.”
