The Fiji Airways Fiji 7s men’s side finally beat Argentina in the World Sevens series this season and it could not come at a better place than at the Hong Kong 7s.

The Tevita Daugunu-captained side beat the Argentinians 26-19 in the Pool A decider and will now face South Africa in the cup quarter-finals at 2.48pm today.

The side earlier beat Canada 40-7 and Samoa 12-7 in pool play.

Daugunu said they were happy to finally get the win against the champions from Vancouver last month.

He said Hong Kong was always special for the Fiji team.

“From then to now, it has always inspired us to win here,” he said after the win over Argentina.

“We are always inspired to play here and to win will be a bonus for us. We will try and keep it simple and come out tomorrow with the hope of winning the tournament.”

Against Argentina, Fiji’s tries were scored by Josese Batirerega, Pilipo Bukayaro, Joseva Talacolo and Napolioni Bolaca.

Conversions were from Iowane Teba, Waisea Nacuqu and Terio Tamani.

Argentina led 12-5 at half-time.

Argentina faces New Zealand in the first quarter-final at 2.02pm.
