Queensland Reds backrower Seru Uru is relishing a special homecoming as he prepares to face the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua in Round 6 of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific clash at Churchill Park today.

For the Fijian-born forward, the opportunity to return and play in front of family and friends adds extra meaning to an already important match.

“Looking forward to come back to Fiji and play against the Drua in front of our families,” Uru said.

“It’s a special occasion for us.”

The Reds will enter unfamiliar territory, still chasing their first win on Fijian soil, but Uru believes the presence of fellow Fijians in the squad will help steady the side.

“It’s good to have Ben Volavola in the team, Daugunu and other boys who have been with the Reds for a few years now,” he said.

“Coming back home is special.

“We know it’s going to be tough, and we look forward to it.”

The challenge is one the Reds are not taking lightly, with the Drua known for their explosive style and strong home support.

Winger Filipo Daugunu echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the emotional connection of playing back in Fiji.

“It’s always special to come back home and see your family, good to be here,” Daugunu said.

The electric outside back is bracing for a demanding encounter, especially with the unpredictable local conditions.

“We know it’s going to be tough and the weather, we don’t know what it’s going to be like.”

Facing a Drua side renowned for their physicality and speed, Daugunu expects nothing less than a fierce contest.

“Expecting a good game, tough, physical and quick game because we know how good they are because they have the supporters and we look forward to it,” he said.

Despite the anticipated intensity, the Reds remain focused on executing their structures.

“We will stick to our game plan.”

With emotions running high and history against them in Fiji, the Reds will need both heart and discipline as they attempt to overcome a Drua side thriving on home support.
