THE Swire Shipping Fijian Drua are determined to turn their season around when they face the Hurricanes this afternoon in what promises to be a thrilling Super Rugby Pacific clash at Churchill Park.
Kick-off is scheduled for 3:35pm, with the home side eager to bounce back after suffering two losses in the opening rounds.
Despite the slow start, co-captain Frank Lomani says confidence within the camp remains high, with players showing strong energy and commitment in preparation for the match.
“The vibes in here are really good,” Lomani said.
“The boys are hyped up even though we didn’t get the results in the first two rounds. The spirit is still there and we turn up every day. The training intensity has been strong and everyone is putting their hands up for selection. That’s what makes the team better day by day.”
The Drua will be without co-captain Temo Mayanavanua, who is sidelined with injury, but Lomani says the squad has responded well with others stepping into leadership roles.
“It’s unfortunate Temo is missing out, but it’s really good to see players stepping up. I’m grateful for the support and the way the boys are taking responsibility.”
Weather conditions may also play a factor, with heavy rain forecast for game day. However, Lomani insists the team is ready to adapt.
“Hail, rain or shine, we’ll still turn up. This is rugby conditions will never always go our way, but we’ve got to adapt. We’ve played in heavy rain and heat before, so it’s nothing new for us.”
He also had a special message for supporters, urging fans to pack the stands in Lautoka and continue backing the team.
“To our fans here and abroad, we really appreciate your support. You are the world’s best fans.
“Come out and support the boys and the talent here in Lautoka. We’ll be playing the Hurricanes and it’s going to be a really good game you don’t want to miss this one.”
With home support behind them and determination building within the squad, the Drua will be hoping today’s clash marks a turning point in their campaign.
