“It is history in the making.”

This is according to FIJI Water Flying Fijians extended squad member Iosefo Masi after the team visited his village in Waitabu, Taveuni yesterday.

The villagers were over the moon as they welcomed the team with open arms, a visit, which will be remembered by many for a long time.

Masi, who is looking to make his debut for the Flying Fijians said, it was an emotional moment for him.

“It’s hard to explain. This is the first time a national team has visited my village and to see the smiles on their faces is just amazing,” Masi said.

He added seeing his family members jumping in joy was a moment he will cherish forever.

“The village is usually quiet but seeing them all so happy and dancing today is just not easy to explain. I am thankful to the team management for firstly coming to Taveuni for camp and of course for taking time out for the team to visit my small village.”

Masi started his rugby career with the Tabadamu 7s side before playing for the Eastern Saints club.

He played for the Fiji 7s side before being drafted into the North Queensland Cowboys team in the NRL.

He then joined the Fijian Drua last year where he gained a lot of limelight with his line-breaking runs and also was the top try scorer for the team this year.

He said he was hopeful the visit to Taveuni by the Flying Fijians would inspire many youths.

“There can be many more Radradra’s and many more stars from Taveuni. This visit has really showed the youths what it means to make the Flying Fijians squad. I just hope many more from this island will don the 7s and 15s jumpers in future.”
