HISTORY will be made on Saturday when Malolo runs onto the field for the first time in the prestigious Skipper Cup final, going head-to-head against one of Fiji’s rugby powerhouses Naitasiri.
The island side from the Nadroga province has already turned heads with their fairytale run this season, and now they are just one day away from possibly creating one of the biggest upsets in Fiji’s provincial rugby history.
Speaking ahead of the final, Malolo Rugby president Ratu Jone Tuilawa said the team’s preparation has remained consistent throughout the competition.
“Preparation has been the same from the past few weeks; we know it will be a tough battle against Naitasiri.
“The team has been camping at Nasigatoka Village, and the management has been doing a tremendous job in ensuring everything is in order,” Tuilawa said.
He said the support from the vanua has been overwhelming, motivating the players to push harder each week.
“We have the huge support from the vanua, and I want to acknowledge the Vanua o Nasigatoka for our campsite, the Vanua o Nakuruvarua and Vanua o Lawa, and the five Yavusa for their continuous backing,” he said.
“We also acknowledge our sponsors such as Mana Island Resort for their support towards the team.”
Malolo’s journey to the final has been built on unity, belief, and resilience. Despite being newcomers to the Skipper Cup top tier, their performances have proven they deserve their place among the elite.
Standing in their way are the seasoned campaigners Naitasiri, a team renowned for their physical style, depth, and big-match experience.
For Malolo, Saturday’s clash is not just about winning a title it’s about representing their island, their people, and inspiring the next generation of players.
“We will go out there and give our very best for our vanua and for everyone who has supported us in this journey,” Tuilawa added.
The 2025 Skipper Cup final will kick off at 3pm at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
