A historic investiture ceremony took place yesterday when President and Chancellor of the Order of Fiji Ratu Wiliame Katonivere bestowed Rev Father Alan Joseph Finn the Companion of the Order of Fiji at his home in Natovi.
This was the first time the investiture ceremony for a local was held away from the State House.
Father Finn was nominated and subsequently awarded the CF for his unwavering six decades of service in Fiji through the Roman Catholic Church.
Ratu Wiliame described Father Finn as a man of integrity, faith and passionate about assisting the vulnerable in society, regardless of faith.
He said the impact of Father Finn’s dedication to the Fijian community resonates far beyond the Catholic Church.
“His mentorship and guidance have shaped a number of Fijian leaders who now serve in the community, the church and the government,” he added.
The president said as Father Finn approached retirement, the Fijian people were grateful for his dedication and unwavering love for God, Fiji and humanity.
“He served an extraordinary life that serves as a testament to the power of selflessness, leaving a permanent mark in the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
Father Finn who has served at St John Apostle Parish in Natovi for a majority of his 60-years tenure in Fiji, expressed his gratitude to the President and the Fijian people for bestowing him the honour.
