The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources has developed a digital library and with the support of United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) and European Union (EU), the MRD library was boosted with a high-end scanner.

During the handing over of Book-Eye 5, high end scanner at the Mineral Resources Department in Nabua on Friday, minister Filimone Vosarogo highlighted with the wealth of data in MRD’s library, the initiative was made accessible to potential users globally online.

“The e-library of the Mineral Resources Department was inaugurated during the STAR Conference hosted at the Holiday Inn in November 2023,” Mr Vosarogo said.

“This cutting-edge initiative signifies a significant step forward in digital transformation and has indeed revolutionised public service delivery, particularly through the implementation of e-governance.

“This is where the new high-end scanner comes in, whereby this advanced technology will significantly increase the speed at which our department can scan documents and make them accessible through the digital library.

“We are very grateful to the UNDP for procuring this equipment and to the EU for providing the necessary funding.

“This achievement not only aims to deliver our customers’ needs but also aligns with the Fiji Government’s overarching objective of promoting ‘Ease of Doing Business’.

“Our innovative directive is crystal clear – ‘to go digital’.”

UNDP resident representative Tuya Altangerel said they were pleased to have been a close collaborator with the Government of Fiji in the minerals sector since 2015.

“Our goal is to support the government of Fiji in managing its valuable resources more effectively, addressing environmental and social impacts and creating jobs and livelihoods for both women and men.”
