A man serving an 18-year jail term with a non-parole period of 15 years for committing several sexual crimes against two under aged boys has had his term quashed.
Instead, the Appeals Court has substituted the sentence for a jail term of 12 years and six months with a non-parole period of 10 years, effective from August 12, 2020.
The 29-year-old was found guilty following a four-day trial on three counts of rape, two of sexual assault and two of attempt to commit rape.
Court records revealed the victims were aged between 13 and 15 years when the incidents occurred between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2017.
The victims testified that they attended the same church as the man and would sometimes stay over at his house.
On November 28, Justices Isikeli Mataitoga, Alipate Qetaki, and Pamela Andrews also ordered that the man’s application to abandon his appeal against conviction be granted.
