The Marama Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa, has paid tribute to the late former President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, describing him as a humble leader and a true servant of the people.

In a social media post, Ro Teimumu said she was deeply saddened by the passing of Ratu Epeli, noting their close family ties through a shared ancestral lineage.

“It is with a heavy heart and deep respect that I pay tribute to the Late Turaga mai Naisogolaca, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau,” she said.

She said the outpouring of tributes reflected the impact he had on many lives.

“The passing of Ratu Epeli has indeed left many in shock and the flowing tributes on social media shows how his personality touched many lives that he came in contact with.”

Ro Teimumu described him as a servant leader who demonstrated humility throughout his service in various national roles, including as Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Speaker of Parliament and President.

“He was a servant leader… showing us how it was done, by walking amongst us… queuing in line or even surprising many with his friendly gesture.”

She said Ratu Epeli’s leadership extended beyond Fiji, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion and wisdom.

Ro Teimumu also conveyed condolences on behalf of the people of Burebasaga to his wife, Adi Koila, and children, Ratu Kamisese and Adi Litia.

“May his soul find eternal rest… and may his vision continue to guide us.”
