Heavy rainfall recorded as flood warnings remain in force

Significant rainfall has been recorded across several parts of the country over the past 24 hours, raising river levels and increasing the risk of flooding in vulnerable areas.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, the following rainfall totals were recorded between 4pm yesterday and 4pm today:

-Rarawai: 235.0mm, Nadarivatu: 197.5mm, Navala: 192.5mm, Nanoko: 159.5mm, Waikubukubu: 132.5mm, Monasavu: 117.5mm and Lautoka: 104.5mm.

A flood warning remains in force for all low-lying and flood-prone areas adjacent to and downstream of the Nakauvadra River in Rakiraki Town, Naseyani along the Yaqara River, the Tavua River, and the flood plains of the Ba River.

In addition, a flood alert has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas adjacent to and downstream of the Nadi, Nawaka and Tuva Rivers in Nadroga.

Authorities are urging residents in affected and downstream communities to remain vigilant, avoid flooded roads and river crossings, and continue following all official weather warnings and advisories as unsettled conditions persist.
