The public is being urged to brace for heavy rain as a trough of low pressure remains slow-moving over the southern parts of the country.

The Fiji Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a weather warning for Kadavu, the Moala Group, Southern Lau, the Western Division (including its interior parts), as well as Northern Bua and Macuata Province.

According to the Met Office, the system is expected to enhance the north-to-north westerly wind flow over Fiji, bringing increased rainfall across most parts of the country from later today.

Parts of Kadavu, Moala Group, and Southern Lau can expect occasional rain, heavy at times, with thunderstorms.

For the Western Division (including interior areas), Northern Bua, and Macuata Province, generally fine weather, but with afternoon or evening showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Rainfall is expected to increase later today, with the possibility of heavy falls.

But for the rest of Fiji, mostly fine, apart from afternoon or evening thunderstorms and heavy rain.

Cloudy periods with showers are expected from tomorrow, with increased rainfall in the afternoons and evenings.

MET has also localized heavy rain could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Residents are advised to remain alert, especially in areas with poor drainage, and to take necessary precautions.
