Heavy rain warning cancelled for parts of Fiji, downgraded elsewhere

The Fiji Meteorological Service has cancelled the heavy rain warning that was previously in force for Viti Levu, the Mamanuca Group, Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu and the Southern Lau Group.

Fiji Met adds the heavy rain warning for the Northern Division, Yasawa, Northern Lau and Lomaiviti Groups has been downgraded to a heavy rain alert.

According to the statement, Tropical Depression TD03F is now located to the northwest of Yasawa-i-Rara and is gradually passing to the north of Fiji.

The associated trough with rain bands is expected to continue affecting parts of the Fiji Group until later Thursday.

For Vanua Levu, Yasawa, Northern Lau and Lomaiviti Groups, occasional rain is forecast, with heavy falls at times and isolated thunderstorms.

Fiji Met warned that flash flooding may still occur in flood-prone and low-lying areas, including informal settlements, communities, businesses and Irish crossings, potentially causing traffic disruptions.

Motorists are also advised to take extra care, as slippery road surfaces could lead to hazardous driving conditions, an increased risk of accidents and travel delays, particularly in poorly drained areas.
