Heavy rain and flood alert remains in force Fiji

A heavy rain alert remains in force for the entire Fiji Group, as a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain continues to affect the country and is expected to persist into next week.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, occasional rain, heavy at times with isolated thunderstorms, is forecast until midnight tonight.

Heavy rain is expected over the interior and northern parts of Vanua Levu, including Bua, Lekutu, Dreketi, Seaqaqa, Labasa, Namuka and Udu Point, as well as the interior, western and northern parts of Viti Levu from Momi through Nadi, Lautoka, Ba and Ra, and over the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups.

Elsewhere, occasional rain with thunderstorms is forecast, with heavy falls likely during the afternoon or evening.

Persistent heavy rain may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas.

For Monday, occasional rain, heavy at times, with thunderstorms over most areas.

The risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas remains.
