A heavy rain warning is now in force for the whole of the Fiji Group as unsettled weather conditions continue to affect the country.
The Fiji Meteorological Service reports that a trough of low pressure, accompanied by extensive cloud cover and rain, remains active over Fiji.
As a result, occasional to prolonged periods of rain are expected across most areas, with heavy falls at times and a few thunderstorms.
Rainfall records over the past 24 hours, from 9am yesterday to 9am today, indicate significant accumulations in several locations.
Penang recorded 93.0 millimetres, Dobuilevu received 85.5 millimetres, Vunisea recorded 83.5 millimetres, while Nagado registered 79.0 millimetres.
Authorities warn that the heavy rainfall may result in flash flooding in flood-prone and low-lying informal settlements and communities.
Businesses and Irish crossings may also be affected, potentially causing traffic disruptions.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution, as slippery road surfaces could create hazardous driving conditions, increase the risk of accidents, and lead to travel delays, particularly in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
Members of the public are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions as wet conditions persist
