Heavy rain alert upgraded to warning for Fiji

A heavy rain warning is now in force for the entire Fiji Group as weather conditions are forecasted to deteriorate.

An active trough of low pressure, accompanied by widespread cloud and rain, is expected to move in from the west later today.

Occasional to periods of rain with a few thunderstorms are forecast to develop over the western parts of Fiji, gradually spreading to the rest of the group.

Localised heavy rainfall is expected in some areas.

These heavy falls may trigger flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, including small rivers and streams.

Possible Impacts include isolated flash flooding in low-lying areas and reduced visibility for motorists and mariners
