A heavy rain warning is now in force for the entire Fiji Group, as weather conditions worsen across the country.
According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, a trough of low pressure, accompanied by cloud, showers and rain, is currently affecting the group and is expected to continue over the coming days.
Forecast for the entire Fiji Group indicates occasional rain, heavy at times, with a few thunderstorms today.
From tomorrow, occasional to periods of rain, heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms are expected.
Significant rainfall has already been recorded in the past 24 hours, from 2pm on Sunday to 2pm on Monday.
Recorded rainfall totals include Wairikicake (91.0mm), Dreketilailai (82.5mm), Nanoko (81.5mm), Udu Point (79.5mm), Keiyasi (70.0mm), Bukuya (56.0mm), Rarawai (55.0mm), and Dobuilevu (52.5mm).
The Fiji Meteorological Service has warned of possible flash flooding in flood-prone and low-lying areas, including informal settlements, businesses and Irish crossings, which may lead to traffic disruptions.
Surface flooding is also expected in urban areas with poor drainage.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution, as wet roads and reduced visibility during heavy downpours may increase the risk of road accidents.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant, monitor weather updates, and take necessary precautions as heavy rainfall continues across the country.
