A heavy rain alert remains in force for the entire country as a developing weather system is expected to bring widespread showers, heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The Fiji Meteorological Service says a trough of low pressure is approaching from the east.
Associated cloud, showers and rain are expected to affect the Northern and Eastern divisions from today before gradually spreading to the rest of the country from tomorrow.
Forecasts to midnight tonight indicate occasional showers and isolated heavy falls over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri, Ra and Rakiraki, as well as Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby islands, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.
Showers are expected to increase to periods of rain later today, while Kadavu and nearby islands will experience cloudy periods with some showers.
Elsewhere, fine weather is expected over parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu apart from afternoon or evening showers. However, thunderstorms are likely to develop later in the day.
Rain and thunderstorms are forecast to spread across the rest of the Fiji group from tomorrow.
Authorities are warning that localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas and are urging the public to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
