Heavy rain alert lifted for Fiji group

The heavy rain alert that had been in force for the entire Fiji group has officially been cancelled.

The cancellation follows the weakening of a trough of low pressure that had been affecting the country over the past few days.

The system is now drifting eastwards away from the islands, leading to an easing of rain and improved weather conditions across most parts of Fiji.

Despite the cancellation, forecasters say some parts of the country will continue to experience showers throughout today and into Monday.

Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, along with the Lomaiviti and Lau groups, can expect occasional showers. Cloudy periods with scattered showers are also likely over the southern, eastern, and interior parts of Viti Levu, although these are expected to ease later in the day.

Elsewhere across the country, conditions are forecast to be mainly fine.
