Villagers of Nabena say in the case of heavy flooding, their Irish crossing is submerged and seriously disrupts the road access to Vunidawa Hospital and schools in the area.

“The river banks burst and caused major flooding in the area,” villager Akuila Nasi said.

“Whenever there’s heavy rainfall, the flooding of the bridge is imminent.

“For safety reasons, we’ve advised our children against attending school until flooding subsides.” Villagers in need of medical attention are not able to access healthcare services and have to be cared for in the confines of their homes.

Mr Nasi said while the Vunidawa Police Post was readily available to assist, they should not solely rely on them.
