More than 200 villagers of Galoa in Serua took advantage of the free medical check-up organised by the Fiji Cancer Society today.
This was done to mark World Cancer Day in which villagers were made aware and advised of the effect of non-communicable diseases that had claimed lives over the years.
Village headman Beranado Gonerara said the health fair was an eye-opener for them.
“We are thankful for such an initiative that has enabled us to know our health status,” Mr Gonerara said.
“Cancer is one thing we are really concerned about as villagers.”
According to the Fiji Cancer Society, there were 499 cancer patients registered with the organisation since 2018.
The most common types of cancer prevalent among Fijians are breast, cervical and prostate cancer.
