Nuffield Health Centre briefly disrupted services earlier today after a patient was assessed as a suspected case of meningococcal disease, authorities have confirmed.
In a public advisory, Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa said standard safety protocols were activated while staff responded to the situation.
“Services were briefly disrupted while staff responded appropriately,” he said.
“The health centre has now reopened with full services, and the patient is receiving care while test results are pending.”
Mr Ravunawa noted that meningococcal disease is rare in Fiji but warned it can be serious if not treated promptly.
He urged members of the public to seek immediate medical attention if they or a family member develop symptoms such as sudden fever, severe headache, vomiting, stiff neck, or a rash.
“Practising good hygiene and avoiding the sharing of drinks or utensils helps reduce the risk,” he said.
The Health Ministry thanked the public for their understanding and cooperation as precautionary measures were carried out.
