Hazelman: No need for inquiry

THE last thing we need in this country is a Commission of Inquiry, what we need is for cool heads to prevail, says the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation.

CEO Nesbitt Hazelman made the comment in response to a statement issued by Fiji Trades Union Congress national secretary Felix Anthony last week that the FTUC was preparing to file fresh complaints with the International Labour Organization about civil servants being forced to accept individual contracts to receive pay increases.

Mr Anthony claimed the individual fixed term contracts were a total disregard by the Government of its commitment to the ILO to respect workers’ rights to collectively bargain.

The union leader had also claimed the individual contracts were in violation of Section 149 and 151 of the Employment Relations Act and Section 20 (1) and (4) of the 2013 Constitution.
